This nail has an annular grooved shank for extra holding power. It is commonly used for fastening particle board flooring to floor joists and in external circumstances, this nail is used for fastening Hardwood decking timber. When using nails in Hardwood it is preferable to pre-drill Hardwood first. The countersunk head on this nail holds the decking in place without damaging the timber.

Annular Grooved (A/G) or ring shank - this shank has been mechanically rolled to leave a number of sharp rings. These rings act like barbs against the timber fibres, vastly increasing the holding power of the nail. This nail shank is used where increased holding is required.
